The ghosts by antonia barber5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() There are also some complex family relationships, a few secrets, a redrafted will, some poison, and a lot of humour. A cantankerous wealthy old man arrives to spend Christmas, there is lots of snow, and a lot of jokes about how easy it would be to murder said guest. It certainly has all the requirements of a cracking good festive mystery. Murder After Christmas by Rupert Latimer – looked like the perfect book to settle in with, a couple of weekends before Christmas. Murder After Christmas – Rupert Latimer (1944) However, both of these books seemed just right for the festive period although only one of them is strictly speaking a Christmas book. ![]() ![]() I am reviewing very slightly out of order now I feel very behind this month anyway. I didn’t go away, but stayed at home, visiting my family on Christmas day and Boxing day – and that proved to be a really nice and stress free. I’m back from a lovely couple of days spent with the family over Christmas – and I hope you all had a good, restive period too. Thank you to the British Library and Virago for providing copies of these. ![]()

Vermeer by Karl Schütz5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() With brand new photography of many works, Vermeer’s restrained but richly evocative repertoire of domestic actions – ranging from letter writing to music making to preparations in the kitchen – unfolds in a generous format, including three fold-out spreads. This XL edition brings together the complete catalog of Vermeer’s work, presenting the calm yet compelling scenes so treasured in galleries across Europe and the United States into one monograph of utmost reproduction quality. It was not until the mid-19th century that Vermeer came to the attention of the international art world, which suddenly looked upon his narrative minutiae, meticulous textural detail, and majestic planes of light, spotted a genius, and never looked back. Outside of Holland, his works were even misattributed to other artists. ![]() After his death, his name was largely forgotten, except by a few Dutch art collectors and dealers. In his lifetime, however, the fame of Johannes Vermeer (1632–1675) barely extended beyond his native Delft and a small circle of patrons. His works have prompted a New York Times bestseller a film starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth record visitor numbers at art institutions from Amsterdam to Washington, DC and special crowd-control measures at the Mauritshuis, The Hague, where thousands flock to catch a glimpse of the enigmatic and enchanting Girl with a Pearl Earring, also known as the “Dutch Mona Lisa”. ![]()

Tamryn tamer audiobook5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() But, it is what it is.Īs for the Audiobook for Herald of Shalia 4, Amber and Kieran finished mastering the files and we reviewed them so all that needs to happen is some edits need to be applied then we can submit it for review and sale. Also, it's a bit discouraging to rewrite something we already wrote. So, we're kind of back on the nightly writing sessions. Rewriting is going more slowly because the writer in the duo accepted a six-month contract in their primary field in January. We hired an attorney to help us navigate the situation after holiday but they were ultimately unable to help and we are better off just rewriting Book 6 so it doesn't get swept up in anything. We talked a big game about pulling away but we don't really see a viable way for us to do that. We're in the process of rewriting Herald of Shalia 6 so it can be published through Amazon. So, to cut to the chase, here is what's going on. This left us in a really foul mood and it left us with a bunch of stuff to deal with from attempting to get it published to bringing in some income. Not only did we struggle finishing Book 6 of Herald of Shalia but we ran into publishing issues as well. We're sorry for not responding to people messaging and emailing us but we needed to pull away from social media because we just didn't have the bandwidth for it. We know a lot of people have been concerned for our well-being and we appreciate that. ![]()
